The Pentax K-3 II D-SLR adds some features to its predecessor, including an in-camera GPS, but does so at the cost of the built-in flash.

Affordable. Solid, weather-sealed design. 24-megapixel image sensor omits OLPF. 27-point AF system. In-camera shake reduction. Pixel Shift Resolution shooting mode improves detail. OLPF simulation mode. 8fps shooting rate. In-camera GPS. Pentaprism...

It's tough, fast and powerful, and Pentax's new DSLR is aimed at adventurers

Pixel Shift high-res shooting mode ; Solid build ; Intuitive controls and menus ; Excellent image quality

No touchscreen or vari-angle screen ; No built-in Wi-Fi ; Noisy autofocusing ; Only modest improvements over the K-3

Pentax's Pixel Shift Technology and similar high-res shooting modes will have their day, but they're not yet sufficiently advanced to make this a must-have feature. That aside, the K-3 II is a capable and well-specced enthusiast DSLR.

The K-3 II is unapologetically different from most cameras, for better and worse

Excellent build quality ; Takes great photos ; Built-in stabilisation ; Astrotracer and GPS

No flip-out LCD or Wi-Fi ; Average video options ; Sometimes a little slow

It's not quite a do-it-all DSLR legend, but if you're looking for a camera that does a few unusual things very well, look no further
