Razer Edge 5G review: the best gaming handheld that you probably don’t need

The Razer Edge 5G doesn't do anything your Android phone can't already, but its a powerful cloud gaming handheld nonetheless.

Powerful specs Truly portable design Beautiful display 5G is ideal for cloud Great emulation potential

Loud fan Cramped design Pricey considering alternatives

“The Razer Edge is a powerful handheld for cloud gamers, but you probably already own something that can do what it does.”

Razer Edge Review

Powerful for the price ; Smooth game streaming ; Removable controllers ; Facilitates convenient, one-hand use

Android is clunky and inconsistent for physical controls ; Razer Nexus software is full of irritating elements ; Lacks a kickstand

The Razer Edge shines as a top Android-based gaming handheld thanks to its strong local and cloud performance.

Review: Razer Edge

The Razer Edge makes a lousy tablet, but it's a great gaming machine -- as long as you have an outlet nearby.

The most powerful tablet out there. Blazing-fast performance. Runs full Windows 8 and any PC game or app you desire. Murked-out styling. Great display

Laughable battery life. Accessories are a must, and that drives the already expensive price up. It’s too large, heavy and uncomfortable to carry around. Performance hiccups when hooked to an HDTV

Razer Edge review: The Swiss Army gaming tablet

A ton of use modes and a clever set of accessories give the Razer Edge a lot of charm and give PC games a console-like spin, but the total package isn't for everyone.

Gaming-optimized Windows 8 tablet with onboard Nvidia graphics; offers plenty of ways to play games via extra accessories; relatively easy setup.

Gaming performance trails that of comparably priced gaming laptops; lacks 1080p screen; design is thicker and heavier than other Windows 8 tablets; lacks Ethernet and SD slot; battery life runs short when gaming; price skews high when accessories are...

The Razer Edge is one of the most inventive PC gaming devices in years, but you'll pay a premium for portability and proprietary add-ons.

Razer Edge review

Take a Windows 8 tablet. Add Nvidia graphics. Mix in a snap-on controller. Toss in a TV-friendly dock. Suddenly, what was a gaming PC in theory can become a console; step back, and a tablet becomes a gaming handheld.

Razer Edge review

It's a seriously impressive thing, winning the same award twice – for the same product. That's what Razer managed over the last two years, hoarding accolades at CES for the Project Fiona in 2012 and again for the Edge in 2013.

Incredible performance for a tablet ; Cool, fun peripherals ; Very clean version of Windows

Big, clunky ; Very expensive ; Mediocre display for a $1,000 PC

It's a good device for anyone, but the right device for only a few

The Razer Edge Review

This story starts in a dark meeting room in the back of Razer's booth at CES 2012. I'm sitting with CEO Min-Liang Tan, who is walking me through the intriguing Project Fiona concept gaming tablet. A number of major manufacturers announced Tegra 3 and...

I’ve had portable gaming machines before – my interest in notebooks started with small 12-13” gaming notebooks and I still have an undying love for systems like the Clevo W110ER. But those are all small notebooks with big GPUs, offering nowhere close...

Razer Edge 5G review: I've got mixed feelings about this

The Razer Edge 5G is one of the nicest mobile portable handheld gaming systems you can buy, and I have mixed feelings about it.

Nicely designed and fantastic build quality ; Standalone mobile gaming unit with no smartphone distractions ; Fantastic OLED 144Hz display ; Cloud gaming access on the go ; Excellent performance ; Exceptional speakers for a mobile device on par with...

Gonzo bezels ; Kishi V2 Pro grips could stand to be larger ; Verizon 5G not always available ; 20:9 aspect ratio does not take advantage of all of the screen ; Other options exist that might serve you just as well, though not with the same functions

Sometimes you get a device that’s difficult to review. As a reviewer, I want to consider the use case for multiple pools of people, not just my own. I can see why some reviewers advise against buying the Razer Edge, but the device is solid. Yes, you...

Razer Edge review: Two steps forward, one step back for cloud gaming

The Razer Edge is so wildly different from the Logitech G Cloud, but it's not always better.

Powerful internals ensure fantastic performance in variety of games ; Colorful, fast AMOLED display looks and feels amazing ; Removable Kishi V2 Pro controller makes the Edge more versatile ; With effort and when it works, the virtual controller is great

Display aspect ratio, size, and corners result in wasted space ; Kishi V2 Pro absolutely decimates standby battery life ; Software experience is the bare minimum with the Razer Nexus app ; Only available in the US

The Razer Edge boasts powerful hardware and an impressive display to deliver a great gaming experience, but leans more toward the smartphone form factor than other handhelds. It's also held back by its minimal Razer Nexus software.

Razer Edge: Hands-On With The x86 Gaming Tablet At CES 2013

Razer continued developing Project Fiona, which we saw at E3 last year, and it's turning into the Edge. We spent some time with it at CES, and are ready with some first impressions, along with a report on the hardware and accessories Razer plans to sell.
